Knights of Columbus Bishop Flaget Council #1071 began as the Catholic Men’s Club of Chillicothe in 1906. When 29-year-old Fr. Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, he knew what hardships and pressures impacted husbands and fathers — mostly poor, immigrant Catholics. The Knights of Columbus has empowered Catholic men to put their faith into action – building stronger families, stronger parishes and stronger communities.
Our council is where faith, fraternity, and finances meet. The mission is to help keep men Catholic and ensure their families’ financial protection. With over 2 million members around the world, the Knights of Columbus have been investing time, effort, and resources into our values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. See
www.kofc.org for more information.
Our council name honors the French-born Catholic prelate who served as the Bishop of Bardstown from 1808 to 1839, and later as Bishop of Louisville from 1839 to 1850. He is remembered for his dedication to the Church and his efforts in spreading Catholicism in the American frontier, including here in Ohio.
Our council has been active in our parish through fellowship and service projects on the St. Mary Chillicothe campus. For example, parking lot lines have been repainted, and brick pavers have been laid in front of the Giving Box on 4th Street.
Our summer beer and brats are a consistent hit with our parish. Table fellowship is evident throughout Scripture as important means of sharing in the lives of others. The annual golf tournament at the VA is also a hit with everyone.
Through your generosity, we donate to various community organizations who work to make a difference in the lives of folks in the community. Since 2021, Council #1071 has averaged over $11k a year donating to various organizations and causes such as the Boy Scouts, St. Vincent de Paul/True Vine Outreach, Pioneer Center, and Pony League baseball. The council has long supported Bishop Flaget School through fundraisers and various work projects. Additionally, since 2021 we have partnered with our brothers at Council #15793 in donating over $10k to award college scholarships for graduating parish high school students.
Previous years we have held “We are the Hands” fundraiser in coordination with the St. Vincent de Paul Society to help those in our community who are less fortunate. With your show of love and your generous donations, for the last 12 years, we have been able to successfully help families enjoy a hearty warm meal during the Christmas season.
Many members devote time to parish faith events such as adoration and local processions. Members devote time in the community, volunteering at Bishop Flaget, True Vine, and other community activities.
